
Ewen began his career at KPMG where he qualified as a chartered accountant in 1977. In 1980 he joined the corporate finance department of Charterhouse Bank, becoming a director in 1987, before moving to the Corporation of Lloyd’s in 1993. He spent two years as the Head of the Corporate Membership Unit and served on Lloyd’s working parties including the Value Group and the David James Capital Structure Group. He was secretary to the Lloyd’s Capacity Auction Group and was closely involved in the formulation of the auction system. In 1995 he joined Amlin Plc as Special Projects Manager and in 1998 moved to Chaucer Holdings PLC, initially as Finance Director and, from 1999, as Group Managing Director/CEO. During this time he also chaired the Lloyd’s Market Processes Committee and the Chaucer Pension Fund. Ewen joined HAL in January 2010. He remains a member of the Council of Lloyd’s, and sits on the Lloyd’s Nominations, Appointments and Compensation Committee and the Lloyd’s Audit Committee. Ewen is a non executive director of the Antares Managing Agency Ltd, and the run-off company Shelbourne Syndicate Services.
