The alternative to a bespoke portfolio is to underwrite on one of HAL’s Members' Agents' Pooling Arrangements (MAPA).

MAPAs are an administrative arrangement that allows Members to spread their risk by underwriting on a pooled basis with other Members. The spread of syndicates is usually wider than on a bespoke basis. The composition of the MAPA and administration of capacity changes is the responsibility of Hampden Underwriting Research.
