Hurricane Hilary

Hurricane Hilary the 8th named storm and the 6th hurricane of the 2023 season produced heavy rainfall which triggered landslides.

By the time Hilary came ashore south-west of Palm Springs, southern California, Hilary was a tropical storm bringing historic and severe rainfall, flash floods and mudslides to normally arid areas such as Death Valley.

No significant property damage seems to have occurred from Hilary's winds. Flood cover is not widely bought by householders.

Hilary does not look like a material insured loss and hopefully the rainfall will forestall some wildfires.

KCC catastrophe modeller firm says the insured loss damage to be in the low US$600m range.
