New Chair of Lloyd's - Sir Charles Roxburgh KCB

Sir Charles Roxburgh has begun his role as Chair of Lloyd’s from the 1st of May and sent his first message to the market.
He paid tribute to Bruce Carnegie-Brown who as Chair of Lloyd’s from 2017 to 2025, oversaw Lloyd’s stronger financial position, its highest ever ratings and the market’s considerably improved performance, delivering strong returns to investors.
Bruce leaves Lloyd’s in “Immeasurably better shape than it was 30 years ago” said Sir Charles in his letter, emphasising that “Lloyd’s strong progress and performance is not a given and must be protected and built on against a challenging backdrop.”
He lists in his letter the market’s challenges for “building an even more successful Lloyd’s in the years to come which he is confident can be successfully tackled: -
- Navigating an increasingly complex and uncertain geopolitical and macro-economic environment,
- Delivering on the critical programme of digitisation that is vital for future competitiveness,
- Continuing to meet the high expectations of our customers,
- Providing investors with sustained, attractive returns on capital.
Sir Charles has extensive knowledge of and connections at Lloyd’s having been the lead consultant working with the Lloyd’s Taskforce and Sir David Rowland, on Lloyd’s 1993 Business Plan and 1995-1996 Reconstruction and Renewal (“R&R”) Plan.
Sir Charle’s says that his first priority is to complete the search for a new Lloyd’s CEO (John Neal is due to join global broker Aon later in the year) and that he expects to be able to present a recommendation to the Lloyd’s Council shortly.
Sir Charles has been getting “out and about” meeting the various leaders of the market and is evidently very keen to start on the work of setting course for the market’s next stage in its strategic development.
Hampden’s CEO Alistair Wood has recently met up with Sir Charles and we very much look forward to working with him and his new leadership team for the benefit of the market and our members.
