Investing in syndicates

There are over seventy syndicates providing insurance within the Lloyd’s marketplace.
We provide advice and recommendations on which of these syndicates to support, ensuring that the overall approach is in line with your risk appetite and individual circumstances.

As well as the option to create a bespoke portfolio of individual syndicates, clients have access to a our packaged portfolio of quality syndicates consolidated into a managed spread of capacity. These are called Members Agent Pooling Arrangement' (MAPA) portfolios.

Proven to outperform the rest of Lloyd’s, it’s the most simple and straightforward way for clients to access the market and there is the benefit from the bulk buying power at this larger scale. Clients can either put some or all of their underwriting capacity into these spread portfolios.

Cashflow and Exit

Due to Lloyd’s three-year accounting basis that allows adequate time for claims to come in, investors normally receive a profit that has accrued (or pay any losses) from underwriting in the May after the syndicates’ accounts have been completed.

If the owner(s) of a NameCo, or all underwriting partners in a LLP want to stop underwriting, the entire company or LLP can be sold. Subject to demand, sale to a third party can be facilitated by Hampden at any time during the calendar year.

The limited liability vehicle

All new clients underwrite on a limited liability basis. You can either set up a Limited Company (NameCo) or a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP). We not only assist in deciding which of these vehicles will be most suitable, but also whether to set up a new entity or buy an existing NameCo or LLP.
