Hampden’s managed, discretionary portfolios have produced a net average annualised return of 24.2%¹ between 2003 and 2022, in the process outperforming the Lloyd’s market by 13.6%.

Size

One of the reasons we can outperform the market is our scale. We advise or provide administration services to investors who support in excess of £6.5bn of syndicate capacity, approximately 12.5% of the Lloyd's market as a whole. This means we gain better access to the best syndicates and can afford to invest in new products and technologies that improve our clients’ return on investment and their experience of investing at Lloyd’s.

Experience

In house we have a market leading team of seven analysts producing in-depth research on the individual syndicates and the market.

To ensure that we select the very best syndicates for our clients’ portfolios, we grade every syndicate annually; analysing their business plans, past performances, classes of business, ESG credentials and their management and strategy.

We minimise risk for our investors by advising them to invest their capital in diverse classes of insurance to reduce exposure to extreme events, and rebalance portfolios each year depending on the view of market conditions in each class.

Communication

Quarterly newsletters are sent out to all clients and twice a year we run a series of events, across the whole of the UK, when we invite all our clients and their advisers to come and hear a first hand update about the market and syndicate results, with an opportunity for further questions and discussion over lunch. These events are provided in a digital format for anyone unable to attend in person.
